Range

They are found as far north as the Yukon all through Canada and the U.S.

Habitat

They live mostly in conifer forests, but are often seen in parks and yards.

Body Traits

They have a large, yellow body with a dark head and white wing patches. They have a big, pale beak for cracking seeds. They have a yellow eyebrow.

Habits

In the winter they form flocks. They are often seen at bird feeders.

Diet

They eat mostly seeds and some insects.

Reproduction

They build nests of twigs, lined with grass and pine needles in a tree. The female lays 3-4 pale blue-green eggs with some spots.
